Indoor Picture Scavenger Hunt for Toddlers and Preschoolers

Six gentle home hunts. Big pictures, little discoveries.

A picture-led indoor scavenger hunt for ages 2 to 5. Six short themed hunts, 24 optional big cards and a cosy-corner celebration. USD 4.

Key facts

  • Ages 2 to 5 with a grown-up
  • 1 to 6 players, cooperative
  • Estimated play: 5 to 10 minutes including extra play and story
  • Setup: Under 5 minutes for the no-cut game, once printed
  • 18 pages per paper size

What is included

  • 6 tick-off boards, 4 pictures each
  • 24 optional large picture cards
  • Helper role, chart and certificate

Choose colours, shapes, textures, kitchen, bedroom or bath-time. Each board has four big pictures and tick boxes. Beyond matching, try two-clue detective play, shape sorting, feel comparisons, spotting a mixed-up mime, remembering a hidden find or changing an action sequence. Each board adds an optional spoken challenge for ages 4 to 5 and its own illustrated Nook story ending. Children can point or mime their response.

This is an open-ended household matching activity, with no hidden-card route, reading riddles, codes, real locks or required prize. One hunt is a complete activity; enjoy the others another day. The optional cards repeat the board pictures in a larger cut-out format, not 24 extra hunts.

A grown-up leads and supervises every hunt. An older sibling can hold the board, name pictures and offer choices while the little finder gets to decide. For 2 to 6 children, take turns pointing; repeat finds count, so nobody needs to race.

White backgrounds, thick outlines and generous pictures suit home printing. Greyscale colour play needs a grown-up to name the printed colours or supply real colour samples. Other hunts work directly from their pictures. Ordinary household objects may look different; reasonable matches, substitutions and skips are welcome.

The no-cut game takes an estimated under 5 minutes to set up once printed. Optional card cutting adds preparation time. Allow an estimated 5 to 10 minutes per chosen hunt including extra play and storytelling. Four simple matches alone may be much quicker. These are not measured family-session times; pause whenever needed. Replay with different approved finds, a new challenge or a different ending.

Each 18-page PDF contains 1 cover, 3 grown-up guide pages, 6 hunt boards, 6 optional card sheets, 1 completion chart with a story finale and 1 certificate. You receive Letter and A4 files in colour and greyscale, four PDFs total. Print only the pages you want.

• 24 optional large picture cards that repeat the board pictures
