- 4 to 30 children plus a grown-up host; 1 to 6 cooperative teams
- Estimated play: 55 to 75 min
- Setup: 10 to 15 min, plus printing
- 25 pages per paper size
What is included
- 9 linked tasks with a twelve-tray finale
- 6 original suspects, case board and story reveal
- Graded hints, badges and compact print route
Nine linked tasks include a letter maze, picture counter, event timeline, four-by-four locker logic grid, six-coordinate camera log, departure-slip comparison, six-piece edge-matching sign, backward letter code and a twelve-tray deduction. Earlier results matter again: the counter opens the note, the camera checks its story, and five details select one tray. The case, unique puzzle results and finale are checked by software.
The original cast includes a snail artist, frog wagon keeper, moth ribbon folder, hedgehog mail sorter, lantern robot and cloud courier. Each has a distinct vector portrait and closing-time alibi. Children play detectives, never the culprit. Closing-time alibis do not cover the overnight mystery. The mystery concerns friendship and a helpful mix-up, with no romance or scary crime.
Run one cooperative family table for 4 to 6 or up to six classroom teams, usually 4 to 5 each, supporting 30 players. Smaller teams are welcome. Six rotating jobs share reading, tracing, checking and explanation. Ages 6 to 7 need grown-up reading and logic help. Ages 8 to 10 can try an optional smudged-archive reasoning challenge after proving their tray choice. There is no speed contest.
Each PDF has 25 pages: cover, exact print guide, player briefing, two cast pages, case board, eight puzzle cards, tray deduction and report, reveal with a replacement-note card and mail-return activity, six-badge sheet, four host pages with nudge, worked step and answer for all nine tasks, and four compact alternatives. The compact cards repeat the same puzzles, not extra cases. Four PDFs contain one fixed case: Letter and A4, each in colour and greyscale. Surprise is limited on replay.
Choose full size or compact. One team: 15 sheets full size or 11 compact, including one reveal and one badge sheet. Six teams with 30 children: 84 sheets full size or 60 compact. Full size uses pages 3 to 15; compact uses 3 to 6, 15 and 22 to 25. Add one shared reveal page 16 and one page 17 per six children. Pages 1, 2 and 18 to 21 can stay on screen. No puzzle cutting is needed. The replacement-note card and badges can stay whole or be cut by a grown-up.
Estimated play is 55 to 75 minutes including discussion and the mail-return ending. Times have not been measured in family or classroom sessions. Setup is 10 to 15 minutes plus printing. Use pencils and spare paper; a grown-up can optionally cut badges. No props, treats, real card exchange, hidden objects or locks are required.
