Ages 4 to 10, with older siblings welcome. Ages 4 to 6 draw or point while a grown-up reads and records labels. Ages 7 to 10 use the writing track; older children can use it too. The shared seal mission is light for older kids. An optional two-page archive challenge for ages 9 to 14 adds a seven-clue logic manifest and a constrained packing puzzle with mixed-up slips. Prove the only valid load and restore its three-word message for the finale. Includes both answer keys with graduated hints.
Choose a compact capsule as an equally complete activity: one interview, predictions and the matching blank opening-day check per child, plus the shared mission and label. Or choose the full eight-sheet set per child for measurements, favourites, a future-me letter, a hand or foot tracing, a kid-led grown-up interview and celebration memories. Prompts save exact funny words, ordinary-day details and surprises rather than repeating goals. Everyone may keep their own answers private.
23 distinct pages per PDF: 1 cover, 4 host guides and answer keys, 2 shared seal-mission pages, 2 optional archive-challenge pages, 1 label and ceremony page, and 13 keepsake and reopening templates across both tracks. The 13 templates include alternatives, so each child uses a selected track. For 3 children: compact = 12 activity sheets; full = 27. One optional archive pair adds 2 sheets. Printing all 4 host pages adds 4 sheets; the cover adds 1. Host pages can stay on screen.
Four PDFs: Letter colour, A4 colour, Letter greyscale and A4 greyscale. These are alternative formats of the same 23 pages, not 92 unique activities. Estimated time: compact capsule 20 to 35 minutes; full capsule 35 to 60, including a 10 to 15 minute shared mission. Optional archive challenge adds 15 to 25 minutes. Estimates are not observed family timings. Groups of 5 to 8 or detailed keepsakes may exceed 60 minutes. Older kids can solve archive pages in solo or paired teams while younger kids draw. Set up in about 10 minutes; complete pages over several days if preferred.
This is an expanded keepsake project with a short shared code mission, not an hourly countdown. The separately sold New Year's Eve Countdown Kit for Kids already includes a brief interview and time capsule activity. This kit expands those ideas with separate picture and writing tracks, measurements and tracing, a kid-led grown-up interview, matching next-year comparison pages and an optional archive challenge. Buy it for that expanded keepsake and return visit; a Countdown owner who only wants a brief capsule activity may not need both.
Envelope or clean dry container, tape, paper and pencils are household supplies you provide. The code is a paper seal, not a working lock. The finished-envelope and paired prediction/reopening image is a clearly labelled illustration with invented sample answers. Nothing physical is included.

Puzzle mechanics are generated and checked by our own software. Writing was developed with help from AI tools. All artwork is original vector art. Play times are estimates and depend on reading help and group size.
A grown-up reads for younger children, handles cutting and any jar or container, and helps with tracing and measuring. Use clean, dry paper keepsakes and a dry container; a large envelope works well. Store the capsule in a dry indoor place chosen by a grown-up. No actual lock or special equipment is needed.
