Snow Day Detective: A Winter Mystery for Kids

Five snowy clues. One missing sled-race trophy. A town counting on you.

Solve five different evidence puzzles, compare five winter-town suspects and recover a missing sled-race trophy. A cooperative printable case for ages 6 to 10.

Key facts

  • Ages 6 to 10; reading and logic help recommended for ages 6 to 7
  • Best with 1 to 3 players; up to 6 with host-managed turns, plus a grown-up host
  • Estimated play: 40 to 60 min core; optional senior lab adds 15 to 25 min
  • Setup: 10 to 15 min
  • 18 pages per paper size

What is included

  • 5 original suspects + 5 varied evidence puzzles
  • Linked map trail + tool-grid trophy recovery
  • 5 optional senior challenges + graded hints

Naming the mover opens a hidden ending. Discover what happened, use your complete tool grid to build a four-step recovery plan and prove your tray choices to the host. Finish with a trophy-return ceremony and a badge certificate with drawing space for every detective.

Five optional senior challenges add a lost-whistle deduction, a missing schedule rule, a backwards cipher, an ambiguous torn receipt and a convincing wrong route. All five stations, the recovery and the senior challenges have graded help: nudge, worked step and answer.

PRACTICAL DETAILS

• Files: four 18-page PDFs, Letter and A4 in colour and greyscale. Includes the case, five suspect records, five stations, notebook, hidden recovery, badge certificate, print guide, graded host help, senior lab and an optional working sheet with two blank grids and schedule rows. All formats contain the same fixed case, with limited surprise on replay.

Print p3 to p11 once per team, holding p11 for the ending, plus p12 per child: 10 sheets for one child, 12 for three or 15 for six. Optional senior lab: add p16 and working sheet p18. Reference p1 and p2 can stay on screen; p13 to p15 and senior host help p17 are for the host screen only. Supply a printer and pencils.

• Players: ages 6 to 10, with reading and logic help for ages 6 to 7. Best with 1 to 3; up to 6 plus a grown-up host. For 4 to 6, pair solvers and checkers and rotate pencil turns. In class, print a set per small team and one badge per child.
